- X% of Y: multiply and divide by 100. 15% of 800 is 15 / 100 x 800 = 120
- X is what % of Y: divide X by Y and multiply by 100. 120 is 15% of 800

- GST: add GST to a price, or take it out of a price that already includes it. The tax is split into CGST and SGST for sales within a state
- Marks percentage: add your subjects and get the overall percentage, each subject's percentage and a grade
- Two discounts do not add up. 20% and then 10% more is 28% in total, not 30%, because the second one applies to the lower price
- A rise of 50% followed by a fall of 50% does not bring you back. 100 becomes 150 and then 75
- Percentage points and percent are different. Going from 10% to 12% is 2 percentage points, but a 20% increase
- Since 22 September 2025 the main GST rates are 5% and 18%, with 40% for specified luxury and sin goods, and 0% for essentials. Gold and silver use 3%
- The old 12% and 28% slabs no longer apply to new sales. Choose Custom if you need them for an older bill. Always check the rate for your exact item
