PDF Splitter Tool FAQ
Basic Splitting
To split a PDF: 1) Upload your file, 2) Choose between page range (e.g., 1-3, 4-5) or extract every page as separate files, 3) Preview the split points, 4) Click "Split PDF", 5) Download your files as a ZIP archive or individually. The process preserves all original formatting and quality.
We offer four splitting methods: 1) Page ranges (custom groupings), 2) Split after every page, 3) Split by bookmarks (creates files at each bookmark), 4) Split by file size (auto-divides to meet size limits). Advanced users can also split by text patterns or blank pages.
Free users can split PDFs up to 200 pages. Premium accounts handle documents up to 2,000 pages. For larger files, we recommend: 1) Using our desktop app, 2) Splitting in multiple batches, or 3) Contacting us for enterprise solutions.
Advanced Features
Yes! Use our custom selection mode: 1) Click "Select Pages", 2) Choose individual pages (Ctrl+Click), 3) Combine with range selections (e.g., 1,3,5-8), 4) Save as a new PDF. The tool highlights your selections for visual confirmation before splitting.
For size-based splitting: 1) Select "Split by Size", 2) Set target size (1MB-25MB), 3) Choose whether to optimize images, 4) The tool automatically groups pages to meet your size limit while preserving document structure. Ideal for email attachments or system uploads.
Our advanced editor allows: 1) Splitting while reordering pages via drag-and-drop, 2) Rotating selected pages, 3) Inserting blanks between sections, 4) Applying different split settings to different page ranges. All changes are previewed before final processing.
Output Options
Customize names with: 1) Original name + page numbers (default), 2) Custom prefixes/suffixes, 3) Chapter titles (from bookmarks), 4) Sequential numbering, 5) Date stamps. Premium users can save naming templates for reuse across documents.
Yes! Choose output format: 1) PDF (default), 2) JPG (good for photos), 3) PNG (transparent backgrounds), 4) TIFF (print quality). Image exports include resolution settings (72-600 DPI) and quality adjustments.
By default, we: 1) Preserve internal bookmarks within each split file, 2) Convert cross-document links to web links (optional), 3) Maintain external hyperlinks. Enable "Smart Bookmark Processing" to automatically reorganize nested bookmarks based on your split points.
Troubleshooting
Common issues include: 1) Password protection (unlock first), 2) Corrupted files (try repairing), 3) Complex forms (flatten before splitting), 4) Embedded multimedia (extract separately). Our tool detects these issues and provides specific solutions before processing.
Size increases may occur when: 1) Fonts are re-embedded in each split file, 2) Images aren't recompressed, 3) Metadata is preserved. To reduce size: 1) Enable "Optimize Output", 2) Remove metadata, 3) Use our compression tool after splitting.
While online operations can't be undone after download, you can: 1) Use our "Merge PDFs" tool to recombine files, 2) Re-process the original with different settings, 3) For premium users, access version history to recover previous splits for 30 days.
